Tiger Rowing Competed on the West Coast this Past Weekend

Stanford, CA – The Clemson rowing team concluded two days of competition on Saturday at the Stanford Crew Invitational. The Tigers got strong competition from the likes of Stanford, UCLA, and Washington State.

On Friday, Clemson raced Stanford three times and the Cardinal prevailed in all three. However, the windy conditions made it a difficult event for all the crews. In the varsity 8+ race with Stanford, the Cardinal led the entire way and finished with a time of 7:43.4, ahead of Clemson’s time of 7:58.1. In the second varsity 8+ with Stanford, the Tigers again were runner-up after posting a time of 8:02.8. Stanford’s second varsity 8+ recorded a time of 7:47.2. In the varsity 4+, Stanford finished first in 8:37.9, while Clemson came home in 9:17.0.

Saturday’s racing saw UCLA and Washington State face off against Clemson. The Bruins won the varsity 8+ with a time of 6:52.8, while Clemson came in at 7:09.8. In the second varsity 8+, UCLA won again in a time of 7:11.1. The Bruins’ varsity 4+ crew clocked a time of 8:19.2 to defeat Clemson’s boat, which was at 8:40.

In the third session of racing Saturday afternoon, Washington State was able to hold off Clemson in three races. The Cougars won the varsity 8+ race with a time of 7:31, while Clemson came in at 7:57.2. In the second varsity 8+, Washington State recorded a time of 7:35.9 and Clemson was at 8:00.8. The Cougars (8:39.6) also won the varsity 4+ over the Tigers (9:23.8).

The Tigers will host the ACC Championship on Saturday, April 22 on Lake Hartwell.
