CLEMSON, SC – Clemson’s Maria Brito and Julie Coin competed in the 2003 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Thursday at the University of Michigan’s Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, MI. The duo fell in the first round of the doubles draw, while Coin lost her first round singles match in three sets on Thursday.
Brito and Coin lost an 8-6 decision in doubles to the tournament’s fourth-seeded team of Raquel Kops-Jones and Sasha Podkolzina of California. The pair qualified for the national tournament after winning the ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Championship earlier this fall in Winston-Salem, NC. The duo is ranked 29th according to the ITA preseason poll and has an 8-3 overall record this fall.
In the singles draw, Coin fell to Zsofia Golopencza of Armstrong Atlantic in three sets (7-5, 0-6, 6-4). Coin is ranked 13th by the ITA and has a 4-2 record in singles this fall. She is scheduled to face Petra Dizdar of Texas in the consolation singles bracket on Saturday.
