Tiger Doubles Team Advances To Semifinals At Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA – Clemson’s #2-ranked doubles team of Ani Mijacika and Federica van Adrichem advanced to the semifinals of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, CA on Friday. Mijacika also reached the Final Four of the singles bracket with two victories at the Riviera Tennis Club to remain undefeated at 6-0 for the year.

The sophomore from Makarska, Croatia downed Georgia Tech’s Whitney McCray, 6-2, 6-0, in the round of 16 before posting a three-set upset of sixth-ranked Zuzana Zemenova of Baylor in the quarterfinals. Zemenova claimed the first frame, 6-0, before Mijacika responded with a 6-3 win in set two and defeated Zemenova, 6-2, in the final set. With the wins, Mijacika became the first Clemson player to reach the semifinals of the singles bracket at the ITA All-American since Julie Coin advanced to the Final Four in 2004 and 2005.

She will face Georgia Tech’s Maya Johansson on Saturday.

In doubles action, the Tiger duo edged Southern California’s team of Amanda Fink and Gabriela Niculescu on Friday afternoon, winning by a narrow 9-7 margin. Mijacika and Van Adrichem will face 10 th-ranked Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsofia Zuber of Tennessee in the round of four on Saturday.
