CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Clemson women’s tennis doubles combination of Ina Hadziselimovic and Alexandra Luc won its opening round match at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Thursday. They will be one of three Tiger doubles teams in action on Friday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC.
Ani Mijacika and Federica van Adrichem, the tournament’s number-one seed, will begin competition on Friday in the round of 32, as will Clemson’s tandem of Laurianne Henry and Carol Salge. Both teams received a first-round bye.
Hadziselimovic and Luc defeated Wake Forest’s team of Jenna Loeb and Katarina Reveche by an 8-3 margin.
Balda, Hadziselimovic, Henry, Luc and Salge will also open competition in the main draw of the singles bracket on Friday.
In other action on Thursday, the Tiger duo of Estefania Balda and Samantha Eppelsheimer fell to Paty Coimbra and Lisa Wilkinson of Winthrop, 8-6. Samantha Eppelsheimer lost a three-set battle to Valerie Behr of UNC Greensboro (5-7, 6-4, 6-3) in the first round of qualifying singles, while Kathryn Gerber also fell in her opening match, suffering a 6-2, 7-5 defeat to sixth-seeded Lindsey Jones of Louisville.
