CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson, who came within three outs from a College World Series appearance, is ranked as high as #13 in the final 1999 college baseball polls released Monday. The Tigers are ranked #17 by Baseball America and #13 by Collegiate Baseball. Miami (FL), who defeated Florida State 6-5 in the National Championship game on Saturday, finished the season ranked #1 by both polls.
The ranking means that Clemson (42-27) has now been ranked in the top 25 of one of the final polls for 12 of the last 13 seasons. The only season the Tigers were not ranked was in 1990, when Clemson was ranked #30 in the final Collegiate Baseball poll. The Tigers have also won 40 or more games for 14 straight seasons and have participated in the NCAA Tournament for each of the last 13 seasons.
