CLEMSON, S.C. – Junior lefthander Rocco Reid was selected in the 15th round (No. 464 overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks on the third and final day of the 2024 MLB draft on Tuesday. Reid joined four other Tigers who were drafted on Monday, as Blake Wright was chosen in the fourth round by the Rockies, Austin Gordon was selected in the fourth round by the Angels, Will Taylor was drafted in the fifth round by the Pirates and Tristan Smith was chosen in the fifth round by the Reds.
Reid (Greenville, S.C.), the first Tiger drafted by the Diamondbacks since 2023 (Caden Grice), had a 2-1 record in 15 appearances (three starts) in 2024. In 21.2 innings pitched, he allowed 19 hits (.229 opponents’ batting average) with 26 strikeouts. Clemson had a 3-0 record in his three starts and he allowed only one of eight inherited baserunners to score. In his career, he is 2-2 with a .277 opponents’ batting average and 58 strikeouts in 51.1 innings pitched over 43 appearances (five starts).
One Tiger signee was selected in the 2024 MLB draft. Chase Harlan was chosen in the third round by the Dodgers on Monday.
Later in 2024, senior infielder Jacob Hinderleider (Kaneohe, Hawaii) and senior catcher and infielder Jimmy Obertop (St. Louis, Mo.) both signed a free-agent contract with the Colorado Rockies. Hinderleider hit .336 with 13 homers, 17 doubles, 60 RBIs and nine steals in 59 games in his lone season as a Tiger. Obertop batted .303 with 22 homers, 11 doubles and 56 RBIs in 57 games in his only year as a Tiger.
