CLEMSON, S.C. – Three members of the Clemson men’s soccer team, Charlie Asensio, Patrick Bunk-Andersen and Tanner Dieterich, were named to the 2018 All-ACC Academic Men’s Soccer Team, as announced by the conference office on Thursday. It is the fourth-career All-ACC Academic Team recognition for Bunk-Andersen, and the first for both Asensio and Dieterich.

Bunk-Andersen graduated in December 2018, in three and a half years, with a degree in Sports Communication, and, in January 2019, was selected in the third round (54th overall pick) of the MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC. The native of Hvidovre, Denmark was a two-time All-ACC and United Soccer Coaches All-South Region honoree on the field and earned United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region honors in the classroom as well. On the field, Bunk-Andersen anchored the Clemson back line for four years, playing 82 matches, starting 81, and helping the Tigers earn three NCAA Tournament berths, including the NCAA runner-up finish at the College Cup during his freshman season in 2015.

Dieterich, a defender/midfielder majoring in Marketing, was the Tigers’ second-leading scorer with four goals on the 2018 season. The Nashville, Tenn. product also ranked second on the team in minutes played, logging 1,497 minutes on the season. Dieterich has served as team captain for the past two seasons, and has been a mainstay on the Clemson back line for the past three years, playing in 55 games thus far in his career.

Asensio, a freshman from Roswell, Ga., earned a 4.0 grade point average as a Sports Communication major in the classroom in the fall of 2018, and was a member of the ACC All-Freshman Team on the field. On the field, the rookie started 16 of the Tigers’ 17 matches on defense. His 1,378 minutes played were third-most on the team, behind only Bunk-Andersen and Dieterich.
