Clemson SC: “Clemson – There’s Something in These Hills,” a new and visually-stunning coffee table book detailing the history of Clemson University with new and historic photographs, is now on sale in Clemson and other Upstate bookstores.

The beautiful 190-page book is the collaborative effort of lead researcher Trent Allen (Clemson Class of ’82) and principal photographer Kevin Bray (Clemson Class of ’90). The colorful and informative text guides readers through Clemson’s rich history and illuminates important figures who helped guide Clemson College through its formative years. There are over 450 photographs in the book including almost 200 never before-published historical images collected from local families and the Special Collection archives of the Strom Thurmond Institute. These historical images are complemented by over 125 current full-color photographs by Kevin Bray.

“One of our goals was to combine historical photographs with current photographs to show the reader just how much the campus has changed over the years,” Bray said. “Many people only know what the current dorms in and around Johnstone look like today; they will be surprised to see pictures of the original barracks and the construction of Johnstone Hall.”

Allen says, “In 1969, Joe Sherman wrote about Clemson, ‘There’s something in these hills that you and I can’t define and others can’t understand.’ This simple statement has been a driving factor behind my desire to learn about, and share, Clemson history. I believe Clemson – There’s Something in These Hills will give the reader a glimpse of what makes Clemson so special.”
