Tail of the Tiger Held Saturday at Lake Hartwell

The Clemson rowing team kicked off its fall season with the Tail of the Tiger on Lake Hartwell. The Tigers, competing against club teams from Clemson and Georgia, swept the varsity 8+ and varsity 4+ events held Saturday morning. Tiger rowers also competed in doubles and pairs.

In the varsity 8+ race, Clemson took the top three positions with Georgia’s squad finishing fourth and the Clemson University Rowing Association (CURA) fifth. The Tigers’ A boat won with a time of 18:38.9. That boat was made up of Ford Heiner, Meg Bendik, Catie Cornett, Nicole Rau, Caitlin O’Neill, Suzanne Van Fleet, and Sarah Hayward (coxswain). The B boat from Clemson was second in 18:55.9, while the Tigers’ C boat was third in 20:03.7.

In the varsity 4+ race, Clemson again took the top three positions. CURA was fourth, with Georgia’s B boat fifth and C boat sixth. The Tigers’ C boat came in first with a time of 21:16.4. That boat was made up by Lizzy Jennings, Jessie Leidecker, and Elyse Roenick (cox). Clemson’s B boat was second in 21:53.8, while the A boat came home third in 22:10.6.

Two doubles boats from Clemson competed against each other Saturday. Caitlin O’Neill completed the course in 22:00, while Suzanne Van Fleet finished in 23:16. In pairs, the duo of Jessie Leidecker and Kristen Weinacker held off four other boats. Coming in second place was the boat of Barbi Breimann and Brittney Gamble.

Clemson will return to action on Sunday, September 24 to hold the annual class day regatta on Lake Hartwell.
