Lucas McKay

Men's Basketball

Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger

Clemson Athletics would like to congratulate Lucas McKay on his time at Clemson and his new opportunity as an Assistant Coach for Men’s Basketball at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC)!

Director of Player Development Terrell McIntyre notes that Lucas is a “real likable guy that will do anything he can to help you. Everybody loves Luke, and everybody hates to see him go.”

Those of us in the CUAD will miss Lucas’s smiling face and easy, helpful ways. But we are not the only ones sad to say, “Goodbye,” as the Pendleton United Methodist Church and Anderson District V will be challenged to fill a big void, as well. Lucas, Lindsay, Ethan, and Emerson have been an integral part of their local church family and its many activities, and Lindsay’s leadership in Anderson County schools will be missed. The Kansas City Community is getting a great basketball guy, but more importantly, a great family.

Growing up on Tobacco Road in Raleigh, NC, there was probably little doubt Lucas would fall in love with the hardwood. He first joined Coach Brad Brownell’s team as an undergrad at UNC Wilmington, where he served as a student-assistant. He then followed Coach Brownell to Wright State and, in 2010, to Clemson.

Along the way, Lucas has played a variety of administrative roles that have enabled Coach Brownell and his coaching staff to focus on the development of student-athletes and success on the court. In addition to the 2018 Sweet 16 run in the NCAA Tournament, Lucas counts a one-week period in January 2016 as one of those successes on the court that he will remember most. As the team was playing its home games in Greenville due to the reconstruction of Littlejohn Coliseum, they defeated #16 Louisville, #9 Duke, and #8 Miami all within a seven-day stretch to start the ACC season. A combination of preparation, grit, and (no doubt) behind-the-scenes direction of operations contributed to these memorable moments.

Lucas, Clemson Athletics wants to thank you for your impact on us all, thank you for the many memories you have shared with us, and offer wishes for many more memorable moments for you and your family in the years to come!
