GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson sophomore forward Mariana Speckmaier was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The Miami, Fla. native scored a pair of game-winning goals in a 2-0 week for Clemson. She netted the first goal in a 3-0 shutout at Syracuse in both teams’ regular season finale and the decisive goal in a 1-0 upset of No. 19 Boston College in the ACC Championship Quarterfinals. Her goal against the Eagles propelled the Tigers to its third ACC semifinals in Head Coach Eddie Radwanski’s eight years at the helm. Speckmaier was on the receiving end of a cross from teammate Brooke Power where she finished with a header past the BC keeper.
For the season, Speckmaier leads the ACC in game winning goals (6), tied for second in goals (10) and goals per game (.56) while ranking fifth in points (21).
Up next, the Tigers play No. 3 North Carolina (16-2-1) Friday, Nov. 2 in the semifinal round of the ACC Tournament. Friday’s matchup against the Tar Heels is set to start at 5:30 p.m., and will stream on ACCN Extra.
