On Thursday, June 23, the Solid Orange Squad hosted a cook out for the children at Helping Hands. The Clemson student-athletes helped prepare food and spent time playing in the pool with approximately 17 children, ranging in age from 3-12, at Director of Community Relations Linda White’s house.
The Director of SOS, Callie Cavanaugh, concluded the night by teaching the cadence count to the children in attendance. Student-athletes in attendance were Alexa Rand (volleyball), David Dannelly (golf) and Blake Kennedy (track & field).
Helping Hands opened its doors in 1984 and quickly grew to become the state’s largest emergency shelter for children in South Carolina. It relies heavily on volunteers and donations to sustain the services it offers.
