Soccer Players Score Two Goals For U-20 National Team

July 1, 2004

Clemson men’s soccer players Stuart Holden and Nathan Sturgis scored two of three goals for the U-20 National Team in leading the United States to a third place finish in the Busan Four Nations International Tournament in Busan, South Korea.

Against Brazil, Holden struck a first time ball, zipping it through traffic in the box and finding the side netting just inside the left post. The goal, which gave the U.S. a 1-0 lead was Holden’s first for the Under-20s.

Sturgis scored the final tally of the game against Poland in the 64th minute. Sturgis collected the ball just past midfield on the right flank and pushed forward into the attack. He defeated a defender as he cut into the center of the field and then unleashed a strike from deep, placing it in the upper-left corner of the goal.

The two players will next travel to Northern Ireland, home of Clemson head coach Trevor Adari, to participate in the Milk Cup later this month. To read more about the U-20 National Team, click here
