Seven Former Tigers in Field at The Heritage

CLEMSON, SC – Seven former Clemson golfers will be in the field for the 2011 Heritage at Hilton Head Island, SC. The event which will run Thursday, April 21 to Sunday, April 24, will be played at the Harbour Town Golf Links. The Tournament will be televised by the Golf Channel Thursday and Friday, and by CBS on Saturday and Sunday. The broadcast times are 3:00 Pm to 6:00 PM each day.

The list of seven former Tigers in the field includes Jonathan Byrd, Lucas Glover, Ben Martin, Sam Saunders, Kyle Stanley, D.J. Trahan and Charles Warren. This will tie a record for the most former Tigers in a PGA Tour event. Seven former Clemson golfers competed at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro last year.

The pairings for the event make it easy for Clemson fans to follow all seven players as their tee times (see below) are all just 70 minutes apart both Thursday and Friday.

Three of the former Tigers in the field played on the same Clemson team. Stanley, Martin and Saunders were all starters on Clemson’s 2008 team that finished fifth in the nation at Purdue. Stanley is currently 93rd on the PGA Tour money list with over $315,000 in earnings and he has made the cut in nine of his 11 events so far this year. Martin is in his rookie year on tour and has made $111,000 so far this year, while Saunders has made $132,000 so far this year, thanks to a 15th place finish at the AT&T National. Martin and Stanley will play together in the first two rounds.

Byrd has been the most successful of the group so far this year with over $1.4 million in earnings. He won the Hyundai Classic in a playoff to open the season and ranks 17th on the PGA Tour money list so far. He has made six of nine cuts so far this year and has over $13.3 million in earnings in his career, t hanks in part to five career victories.

Glover won the 2009 United States Open and has been on tour each year since 2004. He has two career wins. Trahan has won over $135,000 so far this year and has been on tour each year since 2005. He also has a pair of PGA Tour wins. Warren is an eight year PGA Tour veteran and was the first former Tiger inducted into the Clemson Ring of Honor.
