To observe National Student-Athlete Day, SAAC organized a behind-the-scenes tour of Clemson’s athletic facilities for 45 sixth graders from LaFrance Elementary School. The sixth graders arrived at the bronze tiger in front of Littlejohn Coliseum on the morning of April 13 and were divided into four groups led by two student-athletes per group.

The tour included Littlejohn Coliseum, Kingsmore Stadium and the lobby, strength and conditioning facilities and training room at the West Endzone. When the students arrived at each facility, a member of the support staff or coaching staff, or an athlete that participates at that facility, greeted the students and took them on a guided tour. At each station, the guides stressed a trait that was used on the field or in the gym, such as teamwork, sportsmanship and determination.

“It was great for representatives from each sport to come together and show the sixth graders what Clemson Athletics are all about,” said golfer McCuen Elmore. “It was a team effort across the board.” Elmore explained that National Student Athlete day usually occurs on April 6, but because of the high number of activities happening this month, SAAC settled on an alternate date. SAAC is looking forward to hosting this event again in April 2012.
