Rowing Places Fourth at Central Region Regatta

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson rowing team placed fourth with 32 points at the 1999 Lexus Central Region Championships Saturday on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, TN. Michigan won the regatta with 106 points, followed by Michigan State with 70 points. Ohio State finished third with 68 points. Iowa finished fifth (13.5 points), followed by North Carolina in sixth place with six points.

Clemson won the Grand Final of the 1st Novice 8+ race in 6:58.80, defeating Michigan (7:05.50) and Michigan State (7:13.20). Kansas State was fourth in 7:13.80, and Ohio State was fifth with a time of 7:17. The Tigers won their heat of the morning competition in 7:06.90 to advance to the finals.

The Tigers were second in the Petite Final of the 1st Varsity 8+ competition. Miami won the race in 6:53.2, while Clemson finished in 6:56.20. Jacksonville was third (7:00.10), and Kansas State fourth (7:05.20). In the morning heats, Clemson placed fourth in Heat 2 with a time of 6:53.66. Michigan State won the heat in 6:42.66, and North Carolina was second in 6:44.26. Ohio State placed third with a time of 6:44.83.

In the 2nd Varsity 8+ competition, Clemson was fourth in the Grand Final with a time of 7:10.80. Michigan won the race with a time of 6:54.40, and Ohio State was second in 6:59.30. Michigan State placed third with a time of 7:02.30. The Tigers were third in the morning heats with a time of 7:06.50. Ohio State won the heat in 6:59.60, and Michigan State was second with a time of 7:01.55.

Clemson finished fifth in the Grand Final of the 1st Varsity 4+ competition with a time of 8:07.9. Michigan placed first (7:46.9), followed by Ohio State (7:50.0). Michigan State was third with a time of 7:56.9, and Iowa placed fourth with a time of 8:00.5. In the morning heats, the Tigers placed second in their heat with a time of 7:59.25. Ohio State won the heat with a time of 7:48.50.

The Tigers finished second in the Grand Final of the 2nd Varsity 4+ race. Michigan State won the race in 8:26.40, and Tennessee was third with a time of 8:42.80.
