Rowing Finishes 10th in Aramark Central/South Region Sprints

Oak Ridge, TN – Clemson finished third in the South Region and in 10th place overall at the Aramark Central/South Sprints on Sunday from Melton Hill Lake. The Tigers finished third in their region, behind Virginia and Tennessee. Clemson improved three spots within the region and four spots overall from the 2004 regionals. With 372 points, the Cavaliers claimed the regional championship, with Ohio State close behind with 366. The Tigers finished with 180 points.

The Tigers’ first race Sunday morning was the varsity 8+ C level final. Clemson finished second in the race, behind ACC rival Duke. The Blue Devils recorded a time of 6:48.30, while the Tigers finished close behind at 6:51.80. Texas was third in that race.

In the second novice 8+, which was a final-only race Sunday, Clemson finished second to Ohio State in a close finish. The Tigers completed the course in a time of 7:24.70, just three seconds behind the Buckeyes. The second-place finish was Clemson’s highest in any single event.

The novice 8+, Clemson’s steadiest performing boat all season, finished fourth in one of the tightest grand finals in regional history. Seven boats competed in the race, and all were separated by a total of just 10.56 seconds. Clemson finished fourth with a time of 7:11.60, behind Michigan, Virginia, and Ohio State. The Tigers finished fourth among all schools in the novice events.

Clemson’s varsity 4+ finished ninth overall and in third place in the B final. The Tigers recorded a time of 7:48.47, behind B champion Tennessee (7:42.40) and Ohio State (7:46.93).

The second varsity 8+ came in fifth place in the B final Sunday. Claiming the first two spots in that race were Texas and host school Tennessee. The Tigers finished with a time of 6:59.65 in the final.

This concludes scheduled racing action for Clemson rowing for the 2005 spring season.
