Rowing Completes First Day of Competition at Aramark Central/South Sprints

Oak Ridge, TN – Clemson rowing completed the first day of competition at the Aramark Central/South Region Sprints on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, TN Saturday. The Tigers advanced to the A Final in the novice 8+, B Final in the varsity 4+ and second varsity 8+, and C Final in the first varsity 8+. Saturday’s event was delayed a few hours due to thunderstorms in 8+ the area.

The novice 8+ finished second to national power Ohio State in a 9:40 AM heat Saturday, advancing to the second repechage. From there, the Tigers edged Iowa in one of the closest races of the afternoon. Clemson finished first with a time of 7:17.30, with Iowa right behind at 7:17.60. The win advances Clemson to the A final of the novice 8+ on Sunday at 10:20 AM.

The second varsity 8+ finished behind Virginia and Notre Dame in heat #1, advancing to the A/B semifinal #2. In the semifinal, Clemson finished sixth place to advance to the B Final, which is held Sunday at 10:50 AM.

Clemson’s varsity 8+ finished fourth out of six boats in the final heat Saturday morning, advancing to the C/D semifinal #1. The Tigers then won their semifinal over the likes of Miami and Cincinnati with a time of 6:47.40. Clemson will participate in the C Final of that event Sunday at 9:30 AM.

The varsity 4+ finished third behind Michigan State and Notre Dame in heat #2 Saturday morning, advancing to the A/B semifinal in the afternoon. In the semifinal, Clemson finished fifth in a time of 7:44.89 to advance to the B Final Sunday at 10:30 AM.

In the open 4+, Clemson was fourth out of five boats in the first heat of the day. The Tigers did not advance to the finals Sunday, by virtue of their fifth-place finish in reps Saturday afternoon. Another Clemson boat, the second novice 8+, will compete in the final-only race at 9:50 AM Sunday.

The Tigers will complete the second and final day of competition Sunday. The first race of the morning, the varsity 8+ D final, will take place at 9:00 AM.
