Rowing Competes in Clemson Classic

Twelfth-ranked Washington State and #20 Tennessee each took two races at the Clemson Classic held Sunday morning at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, SC.

The opening race was the closest of the day. Washington State’s 2nd Varsity 8+ edged out Tennessee by one-tenth of a second with a time of 6:54.6. It was a photo finish and race officials had to review videotape of the finish to confirm the outcome. Clemson finished third with a time of 7:21.1.

Tennessee claimed the next two races. In the Varsity 4+, Tennessee finished with a time of 8:00.8 followed by Clemson B (8:10.3), Clemson A (8:14.2) and Clemson C (8:27.2). The Volunteers also took the Novice 8+ with a time of 7:31.2. Clemson A finished second with a time of 7:47.5 while Clemson B finished third in 8:18.4.

Washington State won the Varsity 8+ with a time of 6:56.6 in another close race. Tennessee finished just 1.7 seconds behind and Clemson finished in third with a time of 7:09.6.

The Tigers will next hit the water May 17-18 at the Regional Championship at Oak Ridge, TN.
