Rowing Competes At Head Of The Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Clemson rowing team opened the 1999 fall season last weekend at the Head of the Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. Fall regattas consist of time trials over a three mile course.

Seventeen teams competed in the Women’s Collegiate Novice 8+ race. Drake A took first place with a time of 18:42.3. Clemson A placed second with a time of 19:20.19, followed by Tennessee-Chattanooga A at 19:30.63. Drake B was fourth with a time of 20:34.65, and the Clemson B boat finished fifth with a time of 20:40.91.

Clemson took three out of the top four positions in the Women’s Championship 8+ competition. Eleven teams competed in the event. Clemson B was first with a time of 17:55.11, followed by Clemson A at 18:05.22. Tennessee placed third (18:10.55), and Clemson C was fourth with a time of 18:34.05.

“This was a good day of racing,” said Clemson head coach Susie Lueck following the race. “It was a nice way to start out our fall season, getting our feet wet. All the boats had solid performances.”
