Richmond Pushes Past Clemson, 86-67, at WBCA Classic

STORRS, CT – The Clemson women’s basketball team fell to the Richmond Spiders, 86-67, in the WBCA Classic in Storrs, CT. The Spiders (4-1) shot 60.0% from the floor on the night, making 8-15 threes as well. Lele Hardy added 16 points, nine rebounds, six steals, and four assists.

The Spiders used hot shooting to jump out to a quick lead, and maintained their cushion for the duration of the game. Clemson shot 35.7% in the first half before heating up to 64.3% in the second half.

Clemson fought back from a 26-point deficit to pull to within 14, but were unable to get any closer. Hardy, Thomas, and Pauldo led Clemson out of halftime, accounting for all of the Tigers’ scoring until a Bryelle Smith three at the 10:07 mark.

However, the Spiders were extremely balanced, with eight players scoring eight or more points, led by Brittani Shells’ 21 on 8-12 shooting.

Richmond was scorching in the first half. The Spiders shot 60.7% (17-28) in the half and hit seven of their ten three-point attempts, with five different players knocking them down. The Tigers, conversely, shot 35.7%. Both teams were effective in clearing the defensive boards, as the two teams combined for only five offensive rebounds.

Pauldo had a strong fist half, going 5-7 and registering 11 points, including a three-point attempt from the top of the key. Hardy had two points, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals.

Clemson will return to action on Saturday against Hofstra at 5:00 pm before taking on UConn on Sunday at 4:30 pm.
