Redman Advances to Final 16 of US Amateur

Clemson, S.C.—Clemson sophomore Doc Redman defeated Walker Lee of Houston, Texas and Texas A&M on Thursday afternoon 1-up to advance to the Final 16 of the United States Amateur Championship at Riviera Country Club near Los Angeles, Calif. Redman will face John Oda of Honolulu,Hawaii and UNLV, later this afternoon (5:15 p.m. eastern).  

Redman is the first Clemson golfer to reach the Final 16 of the US Amateur since 2009 when Ben Martin was a finalist and Philip Mollica reached the Final 8 .   Redman is just the third Clemson golfer to reach the Final 16 since 2003.

Redman and Walker were competitive the entire match.   Neither player had a lead of more than 1-up and Redman did not have a lead until he stepped to the 18th tee. Redman turned the match around with he made an eagle three on the 11th hole to defeat Walker by two shots on the hole.  That squared the match.

The Tiger from Raleigh, NC also won the 13th and 17th holes with birdies and shot even par 70 for the round, including a 33 on the back nine. Overall, Redman won four holes, Walker won three and 11 holes were halved.
