Portland Defeats Clemson 2-0 In Women’s Soccer

SOUTH BEND, IN – Erin Misaki and Christine Sinclair both scored goals in leading 13th-ranked Portland to a 2-0 victory over Clemson in the first game of the Notre Dame Invitational at South Bend, IN Friday night.

With the win, Portland improves its record to 1-2, while Clemson falls to 2-1 this season. Portland is ranked 19th by the NSCAA and 13th by Soccer America. The Pilots are ranked 16th by Soccertimes.com. The Lady Tigers are ranked 14th by Soccer America, 13th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and 11th by Soccertimes.com.

Portland scored at the 25:59 mark as Misaki scored her second goal of the season. Misaki scored from six yards out with an assist by Emily Patterson.

The Pilots scored late in the game at the 82:44 point. Sinclair scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Jessica Heller. Sinclair headed in a cross from the left side.

“This was a great experience in playing a team of this caliber,” said Clemson Head Coach Todd Bramble. “I wish we could have responded to the challenge in the first half. I am proud in the way we battled back in the second half and applied great pressure offensively. We are glad to have the chance to play Santa Clara Sunday.”

Clemson will play Santa Clara on Sunday, September 8, at 11:00 a.m. Santa Clara is ranked 14th by the NSCAA, 10th by Soccer America, and ninth by Soccertimes.com.
