No. 9 Women’s Soccer Drops To No. 2 Florida, 2-0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The defending national champion and second-ranked Florida Gators shutout the ninth-ranked Clemson Lady Tigers 2-0 this afternoon October 31, in women’s intercollegiate soccer action at Florida.

This was the first ever meeting between the two schools on the soccer field.

Clemson falls to 12-5-1 overall, while Florida improves its record to 18-1-0 on the season.

Florida scored first with just under five minutes gone in the first half. Gator sophomore Andi Sellers scored on a six yard shot that sailed just past Lady Tiger keeper Katie Carson. She was a assisted by Keisha Bell. Florida did not score the insurance goal until the 54:50 mark when Danielle Murphy sent a corner kick into the box where Abby Wambach put a header into the back of the net.

This was the regular season finale for the Lady Tigers. Clemson will return to action this Thursday when they travel to Chapel Hill, NC to particpate in the 1999 ACC Tournament from November 4-7. Pairings and times will be announced early this week.
