CARY, N.C. – Avenging a loss from just eight days ago, Sixth-ranked and fifth-seeded Duke knocked 12th-ranked and fourth-seeded Clemson from the ACC Championship Quarterfinals with a 4-0 victory on Friday at the Cary Tennis Park. Clemson (20-6) had topped then-No. 1 Duke (23-3) last Thursday, 4-3, en route to clinching a share of the ACC regular season championship. Clemson will await NCAA Tournament selection on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., but will likely host the first and second rounds on May 9 and 10. The Selection show airs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday on NCAA.com. The field for the singles and doubles championships will come a day later after 6 p.m. Duke won the doubles point after dropping it last week by flipping the court three decision. Jessy Rompies and Joana Eidukonyte had won, 8-4 last week, but Mulholland and Scholl won, 8-3 to clinch the point. Duke then claimed straight-set singles wins on courts four, three, and two, in succession to clinch the match. Yana Koroleva did take the first set from No. 7 Beatrice Capra and was headed to a third set, while Joana Eidukonyte was on the verge of winning on court six when play has halted.
