Clemson Notes:

  • The Tigers are coming off a 4-2 victory over Louisville on Friday, Oct. 9, which gave the team its 10th win of the season. It is the fastest the program has reached 10 wins since the 1998 season, when the team did so on Oct. 7. It is only the fifth time in program history that the Tigers have reached 10 wins on or before Oct. 9, as the teams of 1983, 1985 and 1990 also made the list.
  • Clemson leads the nation in two statistical scoring categories – total goals (31) and total points (92). In addition, the Tigers are second in points per game (7.08) and third in total assists (30).
  • The Tigers are in the midst of a four-game winning streak and an eight-game unbeaten streak, as their last tie was a 1-1 double-overtime draw at No. 8 Wake Forest on Sept. 26 and their last loss was a 1-0 defeat at No. 2 Notre Dame on Sept. 12.
  • Clemson is fifth in the RPI rankings released on Monday, Oct. 12. Four of the top five teams in the RPI are from the ACC (No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 2 North Carolina, No. 4 Notre Dame). In addition, there are six conference teams in the top 12 spots, and 11 in the top 50.
  • Senior T.J. Casner leads the team in goals (6) and points (13). The six goals put him in a six-way tie for second in the ACC, while his goals per game average of 0.46 is tied for sixth in the conference.
  • Casner has a team-best four game-winning goals, a figure which ranks first in the ACC and fifth in the nation in that statistical category.
  • Sophomore midfielder Oliver Shannon (5 goals, 2 assists, 12 points) is second on the team in scoring, while juniors Austen Burnikel and Iman Mafi and redshirt senior Kyle Murphy are tied for third with 10 points apiece.
  • Redshirt junior goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell is 10-1-2 in goal for the Tigers, registering 42 saves and allowing just nine goals on the season, while playing over 1204 minutes in the net.
  • Tarbell’s goals against average of 0.67 ranks second in the ACC and 16th in the nation, while his save percentage of .824 is second in the conference and 20th nationally.
  • Tarbell also has five solo shutouts on the season, a figure which ranks second among all keepers in the ACC.

Syracuse Notes:

  • Syracuse is coming off a 3-0 win against Bowling Green at home on Oct. 13, after losing a hard fought 2-1 battle to No. 2 North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Prior to that loss, the Orange had won five straight matches.
  • The Orange are led in scoring by Julian Buescher, who has tallied 17 points via five goals and seven assists. The 17 points put him in sole possession of first place in the ACC in that category and his seven assists put him in a tie for first place in that category.
  • Syracuse keeper Austin Aviza has seen a majority of the time in net for the Orange, and has a 6-2-1 record in goal with three shutouts and 22 saves.

Series Notes:

  • The last time the two teams met was on Sept. 20, 2014, a 1-0 win by then-No. 14-ranked Syracuse at Historic Riggs Field. A total of 37 fouls (19 on Syracuse, 18 on Clemson) were called in the match, citing impressive physical play by both teams.
  • Saturday’s meeting will be just the second in the series between the Tigers and Orange.
