No. 11 Women?s Tennis Will Play Florida State in ACC Tourney

CLEMSON, SC – The 11th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will open play at the 2013 ACC Tournament at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, NC on Friday at noon. Clemson (14-6, 9-2 ACC) is the No. 2 seed and will play seven-seed Florida State (13-8, 5-6 ACC), who defeated tenth-seeded Wake Forest (3-18, 2-9 ACC) on Thursday in the first round.  Clemson defeated then-No. 16 Florida State, 5-2, in Tallahassee on March 1. In that match, Clemson won singles matches on five courts after dropping the doubles point. Yana Koroleva was named the ACC Player of the Week after the win.  The Clemson roster is comprised entirely of freshmen and sophomores. Only two players on the current roster competed in the ACC Tournament last season.  Clemson has claimed four ACC Tournament Championships in program history, with the most recent coming in 2008. In that season, the fourth-seed Tigers took down top-seeded Duke to clinch the trophy.  The Tigers enter the Tournament with three players ranked among the top-40 in the nation, and each of them were named to the All-ACC team earlier in the week. Koroleva, ranked 15th, has reached a new career-high in the rankings, while Liz Jeukeng and Beatrice Gumulya were also named to the team.  The Tigers have played 11 of their 20 matches this season against top-25 competition. 2013 ACC Women’s Tennis Championship Thursday, April 25 9 a.m. – No.  8 NC State def.
