No. 11 Clemson Hosts Notre Dame in ACC Opener on Saturday

Clemson Notes:

  • The Tigers’ undefeated start came to an end on Friday, Sept. 8, as they dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to in-state rival No. 7 South Carolina.
  • Clemson opened the season with six consecutive wins for the first time since 2015.
  • Freshman forward Mariana Speckmaier scored a hat trick against SIUE on Friday, Aug. 18 and became the 15th player in Clemson history to record a hat trick, the eighth to do so in her freshman season and just the second to do so in her first career game.
  • Head Coach Eddie Radwanski hit the 200-career win milestone with the 4-0 win over SIUE to open the season. Through last Friday’s loss against the Gamecocks, Radwanski is 205-108-28 for his career as a head coach.
  • As a team Clemson, ranks first in the ACC in goals allowed (2) and in goals against average (.28). The Tigers are tied for first in shutouts (5).
  • Sophomore keeper Sandy MacIver is second in the ACC in goals against average (.42). The Winsford, England native has eight saves, two shutouts and a save percentage of .800 in her 432 minutes.
  • Graduate Jenna Polonsky leads the team with 11 points (four goals and three assists). She ranks fifth in the conference in points per game (1.57) and is tied for sixth in points and assists.
  • Speckmaier and senior Jeni Erickson are tied second in the ACC in game winning goals (2). Speckmaier and Polonsky both are tied sixth in goals (4) and tied seventh in goals per game (.57).

Notre Dame Notes:

  • The Fighting Irish are 4-2-2 and are coming off of a 4-0 win over Toledo on Sept. 10.
  • Jennifer Westendorf leads Notre Dame with 14 points (four goals, six assists).
  • Leading the offense for Notre Dame is Natalie Jacobs, who has netted five goals this season.
  • Brooke Littman has started all eight matches in net for Notre Dame this season. The sophomore keeper has 27 saves, a save percentage of .844 and a goals against average of .58.  

Series Notes:

  • Notre Dame has a 3-1 record alltime against Clemson all-time. The Irish won the first match between the two teams 2-0 on Oct. 27, 2013.
  • The last regular season meeting between the two teams was a 1-0 victory for Notre Dame on Oct. 6, 2016 at Alumni Stadium.
  • The last time the two teams met at Historic Riggs Field, the match ended in thrilling fashion. On Sept. 19, 2015 Clemson scored a goal in the 102nd minute to lift the Tigers to a 1-0 double-overtime victory over then fifth-ranked Notre Dame.
