Nimmer Finishes Second at Players Amateur

Clemson, S.C.—Clemson junior Bryson Nimmer finished second at the Players Amateur at Berkeley Hall Country Club in Bluffton, S.C. on Sunday.   Nimmer and Phillip Knowles were tied after 72 holes with identical scores of 13-under par 271.   Knowles then won on the second playoff hole.

Nimmer had rounds of 69-69-65-68 over the four days. In the final round he had five birdies and two bogeys, but one of the bogeys took place on the 18th hole. Knowles needed a tournament best 64 in the final round to catch Nimmer on the last hole.

The two players made par on the first playoff hole. Nimmer had to make a 12-foot putt to save par. Then Knowles won the second playoff hole with a par to capture the championship of one of the top amateur events of the summer.

Clemson sophomore Doc Redman also played in the event and had a 72-hole total of 281, three under par. He finished 23rd.
