Mijacika Moves On At ITA National Indoor Championships

COLUMBUS, OH – Ani Mijacika, a sophomore on the Clemson women’s tennis team, won her second-round match-up on Friday at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, held at The Racquet Club of Columbus and hosted by The Ohio State University. By reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament, Mijacika is the first Tiger since Julie Coin in 2004 to advance past the second round.

Coin fell in the semifinals that year.

Mijacika won a three-set battle against Georgia Tech’s Maya Johansson in the round of 16. Johansson claimed the first set, 7-5, before Mijacika won a 6-2 decision in the second. The Makarska, Croatia native then won the tiebreak in the third frame (7-6) for her ninth victory of the fall. She will face another Yellow Jacket player in the quarterfinals, as Mijacika will take on fifth-ranked Kristi Miller on Saturday.
