Mijacika Falls In Finals At ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Tennis Championships

Nov. 4, 2007

COLUMBUS, OH – Clemson women’s tennis player Ani Mijacika fell in the finals of the 2007 ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Sunday morning, ending the sophomore’s historic run in the tournament. This year’s event was held The Racquet Club of Columbus in Columbus, OH and was hosted by The Ohio State University.

Mijacika and Arkansas’ Aurelija Miseviciute clahsed for three sets with Miseviciute finally pulling out the victory in a tiebreaker in the final set. Miseviciute took the 1-0 lead in the match with a 6-3 win in the opening frame. The players held serve for the first four games of set number-two, but Mijacika managed to post a break and claimed the set, 7-5. After battling to a 6-6 score in the third set, Misevicuite edged Mijacika, 7-3, in the tiebreak to clinch the title.

Mijacika concluded her fall schedule with an 11-2 record, making program history twice during the season. She accomplished two firsts for a Clemson women’s tennis player by reaching the finals of the National Indoor Championships as well as the title-match of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in early October. No other Tiger student-athlete had advanced past the semifinals of either tournament.

The Tiger standout will return to action in January when the Clemson team kicks off its 2008 spring season.
