Mijacika Earns #1 Regional Ranking, Four Other Tigers Listed

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson women’s tennis player Ani Mijacika earned the southeastern region’s top spot in the Fila/ITA Tennis regional rankings and was one of five Tigers listed in the top 30 in singles.

Mijacika posted an impressive 11-2 record during the fall and reached the finals of the season’s two most prestigious tournaments in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships and the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Tennis Championships. The sophomore from Makarska, Croatia won seven matches over ranked opponents, including three against top-10 players.

Junior Federica van Adrichem compiled a 6-3 mark to rank 14th, and senior Carol Salge was listed 17th after having played just three matches in the fall.

Rookie and Anderson, SC native Laurianne Henry was ranked 21st with a 7-5 ledger in her first collegiate semester, while sophomore Estefania Balda was listed at #24.

In doubles, the team of Mijacika and Van Adrichem was ranked #5 after going 7-3 in the fall. The duo reached the semifinals of the ITA All-American and the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships. The Tiger tandem of Ina Hadziselimovic and Alexandra Luc earned the #14 regional ranking with a 4-3 record.

Clemson will open the 2008 spring season at Furman on Jan. 23 in Greenville, SC.
