Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth At Golf World/Palmetto Dunes

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Freshman D.J. Trahan shot a final round 67 to lead Clemson to a 279 team score on the final round and a fourth place overall finish at the Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Intercollegiate at the Arthur Mills Course on Hilton Head Island. Clemson’s 279 team score tied for the second best of the final round and the Tigers improved three spots on the day.

Georgia won the event with an 837 team score for the three-day, 54-hole event. Georgia Tech finished second at 841, while Texas was third at 842. Clemson was fourth at 843, while Arizona State was fifth at 846. Florida Southern, whose 278 team score was the best of the final day, was sixth overall at 848. South Carolina shot a 295 on the final day and finished at 850, seventh place.

Trahan had his best round of the fall with the 67 on Sunday. He completed the tournament with a 211 score, five-under-par and 18th place individually. Clemson’s top finisher at the event was Greenville native Lucas Glover, who shot a 71 on Sunday and finished at 205, tied for second. He was just two shots behind the 203 turned in by Erik Compton of Georgia.

John Engler also had an under-par round on Sunday, shooting a 69. Engler finished at 214 for the event, two-under-par and good enough for 30th. Jonathan Byrd shot a 72 on Sunday and finished with an even par 216. Jani Saari, also of Greenville, shot a 73 on Sunday, the only Tiger who was over par. His 219 total was 55th best in the tournament.

This tournament completes Clemson’s fall schedule. The Tigers, ranked #1 in the nation in the latest poll, will next see action at the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico in late February.
