Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Golf Digest Collegiate

LAS VEGAS – Jonathan Byrd was Clemson’s top finisher at the Golf Digest Collegiate, leading the Tigers to a fourth place finish. The field of 15 included some of the top teams across the country.

Virginia won the event with an 855 score, while TCU was second at 865. UNLV was at 867 and finished third, while the Tigers were fourth at 870. Wake Forest was the only other ACC team in the field and finished eighth with an 884 score. Defending National Champion Pepperdine was 13th, tied with Texas at 889.

Byrd had a 10-under-par score heading into the final round and only needed a 72 to tie the Clemson tournament scoring record, but the sophomore shot an 80 on the final round and finished with a 214, two-under-par. Byrd had shot a career best 65 in the opening round and had the individual lead. James Driscoll of Virginia was the medalist with a 207 score, nine under par.

Joey Maxon was Clemson’s second best finisher with a 218, good enough for 16th place. He had a consistent 72-73-73 for the 54 holes. Charles Warren was tied for 24th with a 220 score afte a final round 74. Freshman John Engler finished at 221 after a final round 71. He was the only Tiger under par on Sunday. Elliot Gealy had a 228 score and finished 58th.
