PREVIEW

TEAM
• Clemson tops Miami in the second round of the ACC Tournament and advances to the ACC Quarterfinal round for the first time since opening the 2018 tournament on a double-bye and defeating Boston College 90-82.

  • Career win No. 185 for head coach Brad Brownell at Clemson. It was win No. 352 overall in Coach Brownell’s career.
  • It marked Coach Brownell’s fifth ACC Tournament victory – more than any other Clemson coach.

  • Clemson’s last second round win in Greensboro was a 69-65 overtime win over Georgia Tech on March 14, 2014. The leading scorer, K.J. McDaniels (18 points), was in attendance supporting Clemson against Miami on Wednesday. McDaniels plays for the nearby Greensboro Swarm.

  • Clemson moves to 1-1 against Miami all-time in the ACC Tournament.

  • Clemson finished 18-for-19 (94.7 percent) from the foul line against Miami. That marks the highest free throw percentage in Clemson history in a game played away from home. Three of Clemson’s top five free throw percentages have come against Miami.
  • The Tigers made 11-of-their-last-12 free throws to end the game.
  • That free throw percentage is also the highest for Clemson in the ACC Tournament (previous high: 92.3 percent vs. Duke in 2017).

  • The win marked the sixth halftime deficit overcome for victory this season for the Tigers.
  • It was the fifth in 2020 and the third away from home this season for Clemson.
  • Six halftime deficits overcome for victory ties a Clemson record. The other years that Clemson had six comebacks from a halftime deficit were 2013-14 and 1989-90.

  • With Hunter Tyson’s charge and John Newman III’s dunk against Miami, the Tigers have now taken 44 charges to just 34 dunks this season.

  • Clemson has now had players miss a total of 75 games this season due to injury.

  • Clemson is 2-6 all-time against Florida State in the ACC Tournament.
  • There have been five games decided by four points or less and the Seminoles have won four of the five contests.

  • Clemson split its season series with Florida State, which included a 70-69 dramatic finish in Littlejohn Coliseum. Al-Amir Dawes scored the game-winning layup with 1.0 second left to top the Seminoles.

  • That win was Clemson’s third over a Top-6 opponent this season, tying for the most since 1979-80. It also marked the most AP Top-6 wins, ever, in Clemson history.

  • Thursday’s contest against Florida State will be on March 12, the 27-year anniversary of one of Clemson’s greatest ACC Tournament wins. On that March 12, 1993 day, seventh seeded Clemson upset second seeded Florida State, 87-75 in Charlotte.
  • Florida State was ranked 10th in the nation and it is the second-highest ranked Florida State team Clemson has defeated in history.
  • Sharone Wright (24), Devin Gray (23) and Chris Whitney (20) all had at least 20 points in the Clemson victory.
