Martin Named Ping Honorable Mention All-American

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson’s Ben Martin was named a Ping honorable mention All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday. The native of Greenwood, SC completed his Clemson career last week at the NCAA Tournament in Chattanooga, TN.

It was the first All-America honor for Martin, who was named to the All-ACC team three times and the Ping All-Region team twice in his Clemson career. Earlier this year he was named the AG South Student-Athlete of the Year at Clemson for 2009-10 and was also the recipient of an honorable Weaver-James-Corrigan Scholarship Award from the ACC in April.

Martin finished this past year with a 72.16 stroke average, best on the team. He was ranked 36th in the nation in the final Sagarin Computer rankings with a 70.68 rating. He finished this season in grand style with a third place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Alpharetta, GA and a ninth place finish at the NCAA National Tournament at The Honors Course in Chattanooga. He led the Clemson team in top 10 wins this year with six, including a co-medalist performance at The Furman Invitational.

Martin completed his career with a 73.00 stroke average, 12th best in Clemson history.

Martin will play one more tournament as an amateur, the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach next week. He will turn professional after that tournament. He qualified for the US Open by finishing runnerup at the 2009 US Amateur.
