Marks Named ACC Defensive Player of the Week for Second Time in Three Weeks

CLEMSON, S.C. — Goalkeeper George Marks earned the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of September 6, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. He previously earned the award for the week of August 23. Marks’s performances also earned him a spot on the College Soccer News Team of the Week.

Marks has been brilliant leading the Tigers back line. this season. The team allowed a goal in the ninth minute of play in its regular season opener, and has not conceded since. This week alone, the captain led Clemson to wins over South Florida and N.C. State, totaling nine saves across the two matches.

On the road at N.C. State, Marks was the clear Man of the Match, making several incredible saves to keep the Tigers in front. In the process of his stellar start to the season, Marks has leaped into fourth all-time on the Clemson wins leaderboard with 36, and seventh all-time in shutouts with 16.

Defender Oskar Agren was also rewarded for the defensive prowess displayed by the Tigers. The junior was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week for his solid and consistent play on the backline as well as the two goals he scored off set pieces.

Marks and the Tigers will be back in action tonight at Historic Riggs Field when they take on Georgia Southern. Kickoff for that match is set for 7 p.m. and the battle will be broadcast on ACCNX. The team returns to ACC play on Friday at home against Boston College
