Mackin, Smith Recognized As CoSIDA Academic All-District Honorees

Julie Mackin and Mackenzie Smith were announced as First Team honorees for the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team on Thursday. The recognition marks the third consecutive year for Mackin and the first honor for Smith by CoSIDA.

The 2019 Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes across eight geographical districts for their combined efforts in the classroom and on the field. With both Mackin and Smith earning First Team honors, they will automatically advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.

Mackin has maintained stellar performance on the field and in the classroom during her time at Clemson. With three goals and two assists in her final year, she has been a consistent member of the Clemson lineup. She is working her way towards completing her nursing degree while holding a 4.00 grade point average throughout.

Smith has paved a unique path while a member of the Tigers, completing her Bachelor’s degree in two and a half years and working her way to defend her Master’s thesis in May 2020. With her overwhelming academic success, Smith has also set a career-high on the field with three goals and three assists during her senior campaign. Smith was the only graduate student to be named to the District 4 First Team and is one of only six graduate honorees out of the Division I selections.
