Clemson, S.C. — The Clemson women’s tennis team (5-6, 0-3 ACC) was edged by No. 14 Georgia Tech (9-5, 2-1 ACC) in a 4-3 thriller on Saturday afternoon. Eleni Louka and Jenna Thompson downed the nation’s fifth-ranked doubles pair while Cristina Mayorova earned the first ranked win of her collegiate career.
The Tigers took an early lead in doubles as Louka and Thompson notched a 6-4 victory over No. 5 Victoria Flores and Kenya Jones at line one. However, losses on Courts 2 and 3 gave the Yellow Jackets an early 1-0 lead in the match.
A loss at No. 2 singles gave Georgia Tech a 2-0 edge before the Tigers surged back with three-straight victories to lead, 3-2. First, Sophia Hatton defeated Ava Hrastar, 6-3, 6-2, on Court 3. Mayorova followed closely behind with a line four victory over No. 123 Gia Cohen, 6-4, 6-3. At No. 5, Mackenzy Middlebrooks topped Monika Dedaj, 6-4, 6-2. Despite the effort, the Tigers dropped decisions at lines six and one, respectively, sealing the Yellow Jacket victory.
The Tigers return to action at The Duckworth Family Tennis Facility tomorrow afternoon when they face Kennesaw State. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
