Clemson, S.C. — The Clemson women’s tennis team (5-6, 0-3 ACC) was edged by No. 14 Georgia Tech (9-5, 2-1 ACC) in a 4-3 thriller on Saturday afternoon. Eleni Louka and Jenna Thompson downed the nation’s fifth-ranked doubles pair while Cristina Mayorova earned the first ranked win of her collegiate career.
The Tigers took an early lead in doubles as Louka and Thompson notched a 6-4 victory over No. 5 Victoria Flores and Kenya Jones at line one. However, losses on Courts 2 and 3 gave the Yellow Jackets an early 1-0 lead in the match.
A loss at No. 2 singles gave Georgia Tech a 2-0 edge before the Tigers surged back with three-straight victories to lead, 3-2. First, Sophia Hatton defeated Ava Hrastar, 6-3, 6-2, on Court 3. Mayorova followed closely behind with a line four victory over No. 123 Gia Cohen, 6-4, 6-3. At No. 5, Mackenzy Middlebrooks topped Monika Dedaj, 6-4, 6-2. Despite the effort, the Tigers dropped decisions at lines six and one, respectively, sealing the Yellow Jacket victory.
