DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Monte Lee and freshman outfielder Seth Beer earned midseason national honors this week. Lee was named midseason national coach-of-the-year by D1Baseball, while Beer received midseason honors as both national player-of-the-year and national freshman-of-the-year by D1Baseball and Perfect Game.
Lee, who has 298 career wins and is in his first season at Clemson after serving as head coach at College of Charleston for seven years (2009-15), has led the 2016 Tigers to a 22-7 overall record and 7-5 ACC mark, fourth in the league standings. The Tigers have been ranked each of the last five weeks after being unranked in the preseason.
Beer, who graduated high school a semester early to enroll at Clemson in January, was named the nation’s best player for the first half of the season by D1Baseball and Perfect Game. The Suwanee, Ga., native is riding a 25-game hitting streak, tied for fifth longest in school history. He leads the team in batting average (.430), hits (40), homers (13), RBIs (37), slugging percentage (.935) and on-base percentage (.538).
