Cincinnati, OH – The Clemson women’s basketball team will start play in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at Xavier’s Cintas Center in Cincinnati, OH Clemson is 20-9 overall this season and finished second in the ACC standings with a 10-6 conference record. Clemson is ranked 19th in the USA Today poll and 22nd in the Associated Press listing. The Clemson women’s basketball team is appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the sixth straight year, the 13th time in the last 14 years.
The Lady Tigers are the fifth seed in the Mideast Region. Clemson will play 12th-seeded Tennessee-Chattanooga in the first round. Fourth-seeded Xavier and and 13th-seeded Louisville will meet in the second game. The two winners will meet Sunday in Cincinnati, OH at 1:05 p.m. The Mideast Regional is in Birmingham, AL.
Tennessee-Chattanooga has a 24-6 record overall and won the Southern Conference Championship. The Lady Mocs are led in scoring by Damita Bullock with a 14.2 ppg. average. Tishay Lewis leads the team in rebounding with a 6.2 rpg. mark.
This is the 14th time the Lady Tigers have been to the NCAA Tournament since the NCAA first started the women’s tournament in 1982. Under Head Coach Jim Davis, this is the 13th time in his 14 years at Clemson that the Lady Tigers have participated in the NCAA Tournament. Since 1988, Clemson is tied for sixth for the most NCAA appearances with 13. Also since 1988, Clemson Head Coach Jim Davis is tied for fourth among Head Coaches with the most NCAA Tournament Appearances.
Sophomore guard, Chrissy Floyd leads the Lady Tigers in scoring with a 16.9 ppg. average. Senior center, Erin Batth is second on the team in scoring with a 12.3 ppg. mark.
Batth leads the team in rebounding with an 8.6 rpg. mark. Krystal Scott leads the team in assists with 111 or a 3.83 apg. figure.
This will be the sixth meeting between Clemson and Tennessee-Chattanooga on the basketball court. Clemson leads the overall series 3-2. Clemson met the Lady Mocs in the NCAA Tournament on March 18, 1992. Clemson and Louisville have met three times in the series. The Lady Tigers have won all three games. Xavier and Clemson have met only one time in history. The two teams met in the 1993 NCAA Tournament and Clemson defeated Xavier 70-64 on March 17, 1993.
