Lady Tigers Down NC State, 2-0

Raleigh, NC-Deliah Arrington and Paige Ledford recorded goals to lead Clemson’s women’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory at NC State on Sunday afternoon. The victory improved Clemson’s record to 10-6 overall, 4-3 in the ACC, while NC State fell to 9-6-1 overall 2-3-1 in the ACC.

The 17th ranked Lady Tigers finished their competition in ACC play, but will have two matches left at home outside the week this week. Clemson will play host to Charleston Southern on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM and will then face Florida on Saturday in the final home game of the season.

Clemson scored first at the 15:49 mark of the match. Paige Ledford tallied the goal, her second of the year. Heather Beem sent a pass to Anna Beth Fuller near midfield. Fuller then dribbled upfield a few yards and sent the ball to he far left corner. Ledford collected the pass and dribbled into the Wolfpack penalty area. She then fired from the top left corner of the box and placed the ball just inside the near post past NC State senior netminder Gretchen Lear.

Arrington added the clincher at the 86:19 mark. She collected a loose ball and dribbled down field towards the Wolfpack goal. She stopped and fired from the top of the six and put the ball just inside the far post, hitting the side of the net. It was her 11th goal of the season.

Lauren Heos went the distance and was credited with eight saves in recording the shutout for the lady Tigers. Lear made six saves for NC State. Clemson had 16 shots to 13 for the Wolfpack,, while the Pack had five corners compared to four for Clemson.

“This was a fast-paced and physical game,” said Clemson Head Coach Todd Bramble. “Both teams had their chances early. We scored early, then Deliah’s goal broke their spirit late. It was the most physical game we have played all year. I am proud of the team. Now we will just have to wait and see where we are seeded in the ACC tournament.”
