Clemson finished the 2006 season with an 11-8-5 record overall and a 5-3-2 mark in the ACC. The Lady Tigers advanced to the NCAA Final Eight.

Todd Bramble’s Clemson women’s soccer team has achieved a NCAA soccer first by advancing three consecutive matches in tournament play by winning penalty kicks. Clemson tied Vanderbilt in the first round and advanced on penalty kicks by a 4-3 score. Clemson advanced by winning penalty kicks against Oklahoma State, 4-2 after a 0-0 tie in regulation in the second round, then advanced to the national quarterfinals after the same penalty kick outcome after a scoreless tie in regulation and two overtimes at Stanford.

This marks the first time in the history of the NCAA women’s tournament that a team has advanced three consecutive rounds after winning penalty kicks. The NCAA women’s tournament started in 1982. The only previous time that a team advanced two consecutive rounds by winning penalty kicks took place in 2002 when Texas A&M advanced against SMU and UCLA through penalty kicks. This has never happened in the history of the men’s tournament either.

The Clemson women’s soccer team was ranked in the various final national polls. Clemson was ranked 25th in the final Soccer America poll of the 2006 season. The Lady Tigers finished tied for 14th in the final NSCAA poll.

Phillips was a third-team All-American by the NSCAA and soccerbuzz.com.
