Nov. 5, 2004

Cary, NC – The Lady Tigers fell to the University of Virginia 2-1 Friday night in the Semi-Finals of the ACC Tournament. The Cavaliers scored their two goals in a span of three and a half minutes in the second half. The Cavaliers advance to the final round of the ACC Tournament against the Duke/North Carolina winner on Sunday.

Amanda Garcia scored the only goal of the night for the Lady Tigers at the 6:32 mark in the first half. That is Amanda’s second goal of the season. Allison Graham assisted Amanda. For Allison that is her fifth assist on the season. The Lady Tigers had the lead at half.

The Cavaliers first goal was scored at the 60:21 mark by Lindsay Gusick in the second half. Lindsay, who now has 15 goals on the season, scored the goal off of a rebound shot. Virginia then scored three minutes and thirty seven seconds later at the 63:58 mark in the second half. Kelly Hammond was assisted on the play by Lindsay Gusick. For Hammond that is her ninth goal of the season.

“I feel we played a great first half with both teams looking good. Virginia just found a way to step it up to another level in the second half to beat us. We did not look bad in the second half either. Wednesday’s night game that went into shootouts after double overtime might have taken its toll on our players.”
