Clemson women’s basketball signee Keyrra Gillespie wrapped up her high school career as one of the top players in North Carolina. The 5-6 point guard led Statesville High School to a 26-4 record and the quarterfinals of the state tournament in the 3A division. The Greyhounds won their fourth straight conference regular season title while Gillespie earned her fourth conference player-of-the-year award. She was voted first team all-state by the Associated Press after averaging 13.8 points, 9.9 assists, 7.6 rebounds and 5.5 steals per game. She was also a first-team selection in 2007-08.
Gillespie set North Carolina records for assists in a single season with 298 in 2008-09 and over a career with 953. She is the only player in state history to have reached the 900-assist mark during her career.
She was also named to the 2009 All-Observer (Charlotte) Women’s Basketball Team and was rated as the #18 point guard and a top-100 overall player in the 2009 recruiting class by Hoopgurlz. Gillespie was chosen to participate in the 18th Annual Charlotte All Star Classic and helped lead the East team to victory.
