Katie Carson Named ACC Co-Player Of The Week

Oct. 9, 2001

Greensboro, N.C.- Florida State junior forward Cindy Schofield and Clemson goalkeeper Katie Carson were named ACC Women’s Soccer Co-Players of the Week after each helped her team to victories last week.

Schofield, a native of Lakeland, Fla., took advantage of three games in her home state to score three game-winning goals in the week. Against South Florida, she tallied the lone goal of the game in the 62nd minute to give the Seminoles the victory. On Friday evening, she found the back of the net twice and added an assist in a 5-0 Florida State decision over Central Florida. In Sunday’s match against conference opponent Duke, Schofield assisted on the equalizer to help force overtime with the Blue Devils. In the 102nd minute of action, the forward scored her fourth goal and tenth point of the week to push Florida State to a program-best 3-0 conference start.

Carson, a senior from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, notched two shutout victories last week from the defensive end of the field, defeating intrastate rival South Carolina 3-0 and conference foe Duke 1-0 in overtime. Carson made three saves against the Gamecocks and eight saves against Duke, and she now stands just one solo shutout shy of the ACC career record of 30. She has not given up a goal in the last 315 minutes of action.
