GREENSBORO, NC – Clemson’s Julie Coin was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Performer of the Week for the week of Mar. 8, 2004 as announced by the ACC on Monday afternoon. This is the second time this season that Coin has earned weekly conference accolades, as she was also named the ACC Performer of the Week for the week of Feb. 23. The junior from Amiens, France helped lead the Tigers to conference victories over NC State (7-0) and Wake Forest (6-1) over the weekend, posting a 4-0 record in singles and doubles matches.
Against the Demon Deacons, Coin defeated 10th-ranked Karin Coetzee by a score of 6-3, 6-1 at flight one singles. She teamed with Maria Brito to post an 8-1 victory over Sandie Knight and Aimee Smith at number two doubles. Against the Wolfpack, Coin won a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Barbara Orlay at the number one singles position, and with Brito, defeated Vania Apodaca and Kristin Lam (8-1) at flight two doubles.
Coin, currently ranked eighth by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in singles, is 8-2 overall and 2-0 in ACC singles matches. The Tigers’ doubles team of Coin and Brito has posted an 8-1 record so far this season (2-0 ACC) and is currently ranked sixth in the ITA doubles poll.
