Julie Coin And Maria Brito To Represent Clemson In NCAA Singles and Doubles Tournament

CLEMSON, SC – Julie Coin and Maria Brito will represent Clemson in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, GA. Coin is scheduled to face Kentucky’s Sarah Foster in the first round of the singles draw on Monday at 11:30 a.m. Coin and Brito will begin competition in the doubles draw on Tuesday, as they will face Wisconsin’s Lindsay Martin and Katie McGaffigan.

Coin, a junior from Amiens, France, is 28-8 overall and 22-5 in dual singles matches on the season. She is currently ranked sixth by the ITA in singles and is a 9-16 seed entering the singles tournament. Coin was named the 2004 ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year after compiling a 7-1 record in conference play at the flight one singles position. Last year at the NCAA Singles Championships, Coin fell to Florida’s Lindsay Dawaf by a score of 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the first round of the draw.

Coin and freshman Maria Brito (Mexico City, Mexico) have posted a 24-5 overall record in doubles play and are 13-2 in dual doubles matches. The pair is currently ranked 13th by the ITA in doubles. During the fall season, Coin and Brito won the 2003 ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Championship becoming the first doubles team in program history to claim the title.
