Jordan Byrd Reaches Final Eight of United States Mid-Amateur

Clemson, SC–Clemson assistant golf coach Jordan Byrd won two more matches Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the United States Mid-Amateur at Bandon Trail Golf Club in Bandon, OR. Three more victories will give Byrd the championship and an invitation to the 2008 Masters. His brother, Jonathan Byrd, has already qualified for the 2008 Masters.

Byrd defeated Brandon Kearney of Bend, OR 3 &2 in the morning rounds, then defeated Jason Rudquist of Peyton, CO 6 & 4 in the afternoon match. Byrd will face Scott Hardy of Pleasant Hill, CA in the quarterfinals at 11:20 AM eastern time on Wednesday.

Byrd and Kearney were all square through nine holes in the morning round. Byrd then won holes 10-12 to go 3-up through 12. He then won the match 3 &2. In the afternoon, Byrd had five birdies on the last seven holes and six overall for the 14 holes to win going away. He won four consecutive holes at one point, holes 8-11. He had three birdies over the four-holes. He then won 13 and 14 with birdies.
