Hendrix Second In Amateur Rankings

Clemson rising senior Matt Hendrix is now second on the Golfweek/Titleist Amateur Rankings. The ranking includes events through August 3,2003. This is the highest Hendrix has ever been ranked and the highest ranking for a Clemson player since earlier this year when D.J. Trahan was ranked number-one for six weeks. Trahan is now a professional.

Hendrix has had a strong summer since helping Clemson to the 2003 NCAA Championship in Stillwater, OK. The native of Aiken, SC has four top five finishes in major amateur events, including medallist honors at The Sunnehanna back on June 6-8. He recently finished second at the Porter Cup in July and that elevated him to the number-two ranking. He had a 268 score for that event, 12-under-par and just two shots behind champion Casey Wittenberg of Memphis, TN, who is now ranked number-one.

Hendrix finished fourth at the Monroe and fifth at the Rice Planters. He also helped the United States team to victory in the US vs. Japan Collegiate Matches in Japan on July.

Hendrix is one of two Tigers ranked in the top 10. Gregg Jones, who will also be a senior on the Clemson team this year, is ranked seventh. Jones had five top 10 finishes in major amateur events this year, including medallist honors at the Jones Cup back in February.

Other Tigers listed in the rankings are Brent Delahoussaye, a native of Greenville who will be a junior on the Clemson team this year, and Jack Ferguson, who will be a junior at Clemson next year. Delahoussaye is ranked 32nd, including a victory at the Monroe Invitational in June, while Ferguson is ranked 36th. Ferguson was Clemson’s best golfer at the NCAAs in May.
